Introduction

This document contains summaries of the HOBO weather station. The data can be found at Bonanza Creek LTER. The range of data is 2004-05-19 to 2025-10-01.

The figure above depicts air temperature data for 2025 contrasted with air temperature data for previous years. The black line plots the 2025 air temperatures while the grey bars depict the range 95% of previous years’ air temperatures fall within. The yellow bars represent historic high and low temperatures. Locations with a red or blue dot indicate a day that had a higher or lower average air temperature than all previous years respectively.


The figure above depicts air temperature by year separated annual designation. The calendar year mean air temperature, indicated in red, has shown a marked increase since 2021.


The figure above depicts wind direction and magnitude data for all years. The wind was predominantly from the SE.

Annual Summaries

Interannual Air Temp. and Rainfall

Annual summaries excludes incomplete years (2004 and 2015). Mean annual air temperature was -1.33 (0.67) oC and precipitation 252.59 (17.89) mm.

Annual Rainfall and Mean Air Temperatures

From the graphs above we can see that 2025 had lower Phenological year rainfall than 2024. Additionally, 2025 had a higher Phenological year average air temperature than 2024.

Monthly Air Temperatures

The graph above depicts mean monthly air temperatures across all years. As we may expect, the mean monthly air temperature reaches its apex during the Summer months.

The graphs above depict mean monthly air temperature by year for each month. In 2025, a given month’s mean air temperature was neither the hottest or coldest compared to all previous mean air temperatures for that same month.

The graph above depicts mean monthly rainfall. As we may expect, the majority of yearly precipitation occurs during the Summer months.

The graph above depicts precipitation across the summer months by year. There were no notable monthly rainfall extrema in 2025.

Summer season summaries

Summer season is from May 1st to September 30th. Mean Growing season air temperature was 9.87 (0.2) oC and precipitation 258.41 (21.15) mm.

Growing Season Precipitation and Mean Air Temperatures

The 2025 Summer season had slightly less rainfall than 2023 and 2024. Additionally, the 2025 Summer season recorded temperatures similar to that of the 2024 Summer season, with 2023, 2024, and 2025 being notably more temperate than 2022.

Non-summer season

Non-summer season is from October 1st to April 30th. Mean non-Growing season air temperature was -9.83 (0.57) oC

Winter Season Mean Air Temperatures

The graph above displays Winter season mean air temperature and extreme air temperatures. Mean Winter season air temperature in 2025 was higher than previous years.
